CONVENTION SKETCHES

At conventions I generally work in two modes: commission sketches, and free signing/doing head sketches.

I work the commissioned drawings with what I call a "fast-pass" method. At the start of each day, I have a certain number of sketches -- 10 to 15-minute drawings -- that I will do that day, and I give out slips of paper with a time to return and watch me create your drawing. (Only general admission attendees are allowed to receive a fastpass. No dealer, professional, press, or any other people with early entry type badges will be given a fastpass. Nobody who comes in before the general admission public, in other words.)

We need to agree that I will draw what is requested, and if it is not a character that I am familiar with, I will need reference. I supply paper, but will also be happy to draw in a sketchbook. I generally do about 10 drawings each day, and it's my experience that the passes go quickly. I charge $100 for the drawing, and it will be in pencil, ink, and wash generally, but I mix it up according to what I think is appropriate -- the majority, by far, are in ink wash.

if you get a fastpass and you don't return within one or two minutes of the alotted time, the pass will be given to the next interested customer.

The first and last hour of each day, as well as at the top of each hour, I set aside time to sign books and do head sketches. I do not have a limit as to how many books I will sign, however I do ask that after the first five signatures (which are free), that each five books thereafter require a one dollar donation to the Hero Initiative, the non-profit organization that creates a financial safety net for comics creators in need.

HEROES TV SHOW ARTWORK

I do not technically own any of the original art for the show HEROES, NBC does, and so I am not at liberty to sell any. Please do not ask.

There are no reproductions of the Heroes art for sale in print form. I am unaware of any plans by NBC to make them available. There is, however, a great hardcover version of the Heroes online comics collected in the DC book, HEROES volume 1; inside there are around 40 reproductions of my paintings. They have also produced shirts, a lunchbox, a hat, a water bottle and more, all available at the NBC store.

Additionally, my custom fonts are used on the show for titles, credits and the online comics, my "Kitty" serigraph made a brief appearance in the original cut of the pilot episode, and my latest sketchbook BLUES contains several sketches of characters from the show.

That's all there is for now, and I know of no plans to go further. I will be the first to announce it, should things change, believe me.

COMMISSIONS

As a rule, I do not take on commissions outside of my convention drawings. I have a back-list of too many already, I am sorry. Plus, you know, I do also draw for my living, and that takes time and energy, too!

But on the rare occasions that I do, I charge $400 for a ink wash drawing on 9" x 12" paper. I rarely also do larger, more involved commissions on 11" x 17" paper. For those I ask $2,500.
