Text from Tim Sale: Black and White: "I was fortunate enough to be asked to be a part of the NBC hit drama, HEROES, as the creator of the paintings for the character Isaac Mendez. "I do not create the artwork exactly as it appears on the show. The originals are on 11"x17" paper. They are all black, white and grey tones, drawn with pen and brush, ink and charcoal. That art is scanned into a computer and sent to my fantastic colorist, Dave Stewart, who colors my art, making it look like painting. Dave then sends that file to the HEROES props department, where it is enlarged and printed onto canvas. "The scripts in comics and for screen are quite different. Comic scripts are more detailed, while screen ones are intentionally left open for the director to utilize his or her own vision and talents. I am constantly asking the same questions each time, like time of day, the mood and intent of the art, what everyone is wearing, that sort of thing. The comics training really comes into play, though, because the art needs a maximum impact in a minimum amount of time, since the paintings are only on screen for a second or so. "My involvement with HEROES has been an exciting and very new experience for me."
