Lionel met his first wife Brenda in college and they began dating. They were married in 1975 and adopted Nicole Richie. Her biological parents had been struggling to take care of her. After her divorce from Lionel, she revealed that Brenda had overindulged her daughter and named Michael Jackson as her godfather. This could explain the tabloid scandals Nicole was involved with and Paris Hilton’s partying antics. Joel Madden is her husband and they have a daughter and a son. Although there was no crisis at their home, Brenda and Lionel separated later. However, it was during this time that Diane and Lionel were said to have had an affair. Lionel married Diane two years later, on 21 December 1995. They had two children: Miles Brockman, who was born in 1994, as well as Sofia, who was born four years later.
Miles is a model, and he has said that he wants to be his own person and not follow the example of other celebrities.
